Ok…a little late again this month! Lot’s going on.
Backyard Bible Club!
If you keep up with me on Twitter or Facebook, you saw some fun pictures from the week of Backyard Bible Club with the Hidalgo ministry in Dallas. I got to teach the Bible story each day. The theme was “Sky”, so I was already familiar with the curriculum since Country Bible had used it for VBS. I included the video/show recapping the entire week (below). Definitely a full week of fun and fellowship!
Birthday Time
Then…I celebrated my birthday…but we can just skip that subject. I have lost track of those. But I did get to go out to eat with my family at Four Winds in Wills Point. Yummy! Oh, and I also went to a concert that took me back in time to the 1980’s…Loverboy, Pat Benatar, and Journey! It was a great time with friends and made me a bit nostalgic.
Angel Fire
This week, I have been in Angel Fire, New Mexico…doing a little work, and having a little fun with a friend. I was so excited to be able to take a sculpting class from a professional artist, Marco A. Oviedo. Check out his work here. As I was learning to work on my piece, I watched him work and he taught me his techniques and gave me pointers. Although I have painted murals and on canvas, I have never done any sculpting. So you can imagine how nervous I was. It didn’t take me long to decide what I wanted to create. The dove sitting on a vine (photo in it’s pre-cast state of a wax sculpture) is a symbol of my walk with Jesus. In John 15:5 Jesus calls himself “the vine” and his followers “the branches”. The vine is considered a grapevine like you would see in a winery…strong and woody (as opposed to the green curly flower vines we think of in delicate images). When I go through struggles, or talk about some of my past heartaches, I am often asked how I stay so calm or am able to maintain composure as I continue work and daily life. This is God’s peace in me, and my answer is in the truth found in John 15…by abiding in Jesus, I find my peace (one of the fruits of the Spirit) and my strength. This is why my dove sits on the grapevine.
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5
You can see other photos from my New Mexico adventures here.
Just for Fun
We have had our share of “bear encounters” at the house in Angel Fire. Back in the 90’s, one came up on the porch while we were all in the living room…stood up in front of the window…and was bigger than anything we have ever seen. Recently, some of you may have seen my nephew’s photo on Twitter showing where a bear tried to get in an open window, demolishing the screen. So I thought it would be fun to see the August 2012 video of a bear wandering through the resort lobby.
