About Jessie

Hello, Jessie here (aka…Jessica Jenkins…formerly Nixon). I started this blog a few years ago (that was 2009)…but never posted anything…talk about procrastination. I told myself I would start when I had more time to put into it. Maybe I am a perfectionist and I don’t want to do something half way, or maybe I just didn’t have time to think about it. Either way, I think I was just afraid to start putting my thoughts in ink (or pixels).

CBC Honduras 2006My three kids are grown. I am a graphic designer who decided to move into another culture to work in missions. This is why I finally decided to get started on the blogging…to keep my friends and family updated, and to be able to look back and see what God has done.

So here I am at 50-something or other…starting a new chapter. I hope you will follow along with me so we can give praise to God for His work in our lives together. Please feel free to comment and share your experiences with me! Please sign up to receive email notifications when I post new articles! To see tons of photos of my activities and for daily updates, become my friend on Facebook and follow me on Twitter (see social media links on the left side bar). I also ask you to consider becoming a part of my Support Team.  Click here for more information.

LIFE UPDATE: In 2015, I moved back to Texas, and got married! I’m still doing ministry with Avant Minstries in the form of working with the Global Engagement team (techie computer stuff… support for those who use the site for ministry).  Click here for more details. My work is supported in the same way traditional missionaries are… by monthly giving of a support team. Please consider joining by clicking here.

What I believe: God is the only thing that can satisfy the soul

I am an unashamed lover of Jesus Christ, my risen savior who came to earth (fully God, fully man), lived a perfect and sinless life, was crucified and died, then rose again and ascended to heaven.

He did all this because we are all sinners (Psalms 14:1, Romans 3:23, Romans 5:12) and we have no way to be with God except through Christ’s perfect sacrifice. We can’t be good enough (Ephesians 2:8-9) …another person’s faith won’t get us there …Jesus is the only way to be reconnected with God (John 14:6).

If we don’t accept this in our hearts, then we will be eternally separated from God (John 3:36). I am so amazed that God loved us so much (John 3:16) that He provided a way for us to be with Him, even though we have sinned.

Once we have put our faith in Christ, God only sees us through Jesus’ righteousness. We are free to love and live as citizens of heaven…striving to be like Jesus (John 14:15, John 15:12).

And nothing…not even you…can take that away (John 10:27-29).

Be a part of the ministry!

You can pray, give a one-time monetary gift, and/or commit to monthly financial support. Your financial support will help insure the online ministry will continue.
