No More Teenagers!
Yes, it is true… there are no more teenagers in my household. Joe and Amanda both celebrated birthdays in October…and Joe turned 20! I can’t believe it! And for those of you who know me, the teen years rank at the top of my favorite ages for kids (with age 5 or 6 running a close second). So I am very sad to say goodbye to this stage of life. But it has been very fun watching all three of them develop their adult likes and dislikes, set goals, and make action of the things they learned as children. So it isn’t a true sadness, just a bittersweet segue into a new type of relationship.
My mom also celebrated a birthday this month too. October is a busy month with celebrations and festivities. Always a welcome thing around here.
Ministry
Since I am still in Texas, I am continuing to be involved in ministries close to home. I facilitate my church’s (CBC) Sunday morning ladies’ Bible study. On Sunday afternoons, I attend Hidalgo community/apartment ministry church in Dallas and help out with the children’s class. I also teach the third and fourth grade class in this ministry’s Kids Club on Tuesday nights. It has been a great experience working with this group and meeting a lot of new people who volunteer there. You may have noticed them mentioned in a previous newsletter when I helped with the Backyard Bible Club (aka VBS). I really enjoy this ministry, and I get to practice a little Spanish while I volunteer.
Allergies and Lovely Weather
I have a love/hate relationship with this time of year. The weather can be amazing and motivate me to go outside and work in the flower beds. But my severe allergy to ragweed causes me to regret this motivation very quickly. Mar Ches Eskridge and I took advantage of a beautiful fall day and spruced up the Country Bible Church flower beds. It was great! But the next few days were miserable for me…and I couldn’t talk (ok…I am sure some of you thought that was pretty awesome). But I am recovering, and still praying for a frost to relieve the sneezing and coughing. Soon!
Slower Pace
Compared to last month, October has been relatively quiet. A welcome “slow down” to focus and catch up on things that need to be done here. But the holiday season will change that pace quickly…so I am going to try to focus!
Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways! You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you. Psalm 128:1-2” href=”http://biblia.com/bible/esv/Ps128.1-2” target=”_blank”>Psalm 128:1-2
God bless…and enjoy the weather!
