Busy Busy
Well, since I am still in the states, there isn’t much “news” to report…but I have been busy! The final couple of months of primary election season are the busiest for me. We are coming into the final stretch of planning and strategizing for my political clients. It is an interesting task, but at the same time, I am in crunch mode for raising support to go to Mexico. Several people have asked about ways they can help me reach my goal.
Aside from joining my committed monthly support team, there are a few things you could do. I really need to make contact with people outside my normal circle of friends. One way would be to invite (maybe throw in some coffee and cookies) a handful of friends to your home that would be interested in hearing about the work going on in Ixtapaluca. This is a great way for me to meet new people who may be interested in joining my team…or may know someone else who is interested. And for my “long distance” friends…I will travel and would love to come see you! Contact me to set up a time!
Another idea would be to have a group you are involved in (mom’s groups, Sunday school classes, gardening clubs, office friends, etc.) adopt me as your very own missionary. This could be a fun way for your group to hear about a different culture and be involved with mission work through prayer and support. I would love to come speak to your group to show the details.
You may have other ideas as well, so feel free to offer suggestions. Click here…
By the way, I got to meet with my friends Matt and Melanie Phillips…missionaries in Italy. They gave me a few pointers on building support teams and communicating with everyone. Soon after, they left to go back to Italy…back to work! Keep them in your prayers too!
Ways to Pray
You will notice that I have added a prayer column to my site. This will give you a quick reference for things to pray (and praise the Lord) about. My most immediate request would be for God to provided the extra funds needed for the kids and I to visit Ixtapaluca the last weekend of May (part of June). Airline ticket costs have begun to soar (ok…there is a pun intended there) because of gas prices. We will need almost $2,000 to make it to the orientation. It will be a great opportunity for the kids to see where I will be living and what life and ministry will be like there. Another prayer in the same category would be for our safe travel and good health there and back. It will be ending a busy month for all of us (school finals, finishing elections, etc.). We will be leaving right after Amanda finishes up work.
Family and Friends
During March, the kids and I did get to have a little break time together. Yes…Spring Break in Angel Fire (at my parents place). It is so nice to be able to go and relax and enjoy each other (even though I end up working while we are “resting”). Joe and his friend did some skiing while Amanda and I found other things to keep us busy…like a drive to Santa Fe for some great Indian-Mexican food at the Shed. Praise God for times of just being together!
When we got back, I took a week off from CBC and visited Richland Baptist Church to speak to one of their adult Sunday School classes. Great group of people! I enjoyed the fellowship and worship with them. Thank you for inviting me!
I also cheered some friends on in the DFW Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon…Michael Scott, Cara Busch, and Bridget Terry. It is always fun to see people accomplish something they have been working so hard for! I have to say that I don’t ever plan on training for any kind of foot race (one 5K was enough for me). But in case any of you want to, the Kaufman Christian school 5K Witness the Fitness is coming up April 28th!
Close Call!
And I am sure you know about the recent storms in the area. We came through it fine, but not without a scare. Amanda teaches at Green Oaks School in Arlington. It is right across the street from the nursing home that was hit by the tornado (it was all over the news that day). When they emerged from their safe spots after the storm, she realized they were much closer to the storm that they thought. The photo shows what she saw when she went outside the school.
That’s it for April News! Check back for updates!
